WebMarshal can be deployed in a range of options including:
- As a standalone non-caching proxy server
- Chained to another proxy on a physically separated server
- Chained to another proxy on the same server
- In
an array with multiple distributed WebMarshal content processing nodes
reporting to and managed by a centralized administration console
- Installed as an ISAPI Filter integrated into Microsoft ISA server (Note some functionality reduced in this scenario).
Sizing
WebMarshal is very flexible and scalable and can be deployed in a range
of options to suit any size of organization from five users to hundreds
of thousands of users.
WebMarshal can also be deployed to service the needs
of organizations spread over wide areas with multiple sites and
Internet gateways.
Sizing WebMarshal is
dependant on a range of factors including the number of Web users and
the amount of Web browsing that they do.
As an
indication, the following hardware specification can support
approximately 400 concurrent sessions (users browsing the Internet at
any one time) on a modern server class machine. Assuming a 20%
concurrency rate (the percentage of the organization’s users browsing
the Web at once) this hardware can support an organization in the range
of 2,000 users.
